James Hardie settles legal action with NZ government. I understand the Government were successful in negotiating a compensation deal with James Hardie over there faulty product used in the building industry in New Zealand Prime Prime Minister John Key. This is an election year. What is our Government going to do to make this fair and equitable for the Asbestosis sufferers and their families and to place the financial burden where it belongs, James Hardie the killer Company ? Is our Government now going to negotiate with James Hardie on behalf of the unfortunate New Zealanders who were and have been exposed to asbestos in James Hardie products and are now either dead or dying from distressing, untreatable asbestos related diseases? A Ministry report 2004 into asbestos use in New Zealand found that the use of the product that between 20% – 40% of all adult men were likely to had have some exposure to this product in their working life, this is not only a work related diseases. Any one that inhales the asbestos dust can contract asbestosis. I would question any Minister, is it fair: would you want to die through no fault of your own? Are Australian lives worth 3 -5 times more than New Zealanders who die from exposure to the same killer product? The average pay-out by the company in Australia for victims of asbestosis is $250-300k. The New Zealand ACC system victimises claimants by their pro-rata payment scam. Total payout if you die at the at the right time could be less than $130k, if you were assessed say at 40% it could be around $25k....
